Salluit man sentenced for accidental shooting

Judge Donald Bissonnette sentenced Nulukie Kaitak, 19, to four years in the shooting death of Rose Ruth Kaitak in August.

The time Kaitak spent in preventive custody was not taken into account in this sentence.

Kaitak pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death.

According to police, Kaitak shot with a rifle into the ceiling, while his sister was sleeping upstairs in her crib. Three shots were fired; one lodged in the sleeping baby, fatally injuring her.
