Sanikiluaq’s school capacity will return to 100 per cent on Mar. 7, Nunavut’s chief public health officer, Dr. Michael Patterson announced on Thursday.
“The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Sanikiluaq continues to improve and it is safe for schools to open to full capacity,” Patterson said in a news release.
Stressing safety, Minister of Education Pamela Gross said the schools will have strong health protocols in place when the schools return to full capacity.
On Jan. 21, Sanikiluaq’s school capacity was cut to 50 per cent because of a rise in COVID-19 cases to 13 at the time for the hamlet of about 1,000 people.
There were two active cases of COVID-19 in Sanikiluaq on Thursday.
