School sickness solved
An environmental health test at Qikiqtarjuaq’s Inuksuit School found that small particles of fiberglass insulation were what made several students and teachers ill two weeks ago.
Technical staff from Nunavut’s health department and the Department of Community and Government Services visited Qikiqtarjuaq early last week after the school closed due to a mystery illness. The fiberglass insulation was dislodged and spread through the school after plumbing repairs were made.
The school is being cleaned, and its air circulation system is being vacuumed. Classes will continue once the clean-up is done.
