The mother of missing Gjoa Haven hunter Peter Nuliayok says he has been located and is safe.
Mary Lynn Nuliayok confirmed his discovery in a Facebook message to Nunatsiaq News late Monday afternoon. The hamlet of Gjoa Haven’s Facebook page said Peter Nuliayok’s all-terrain vehicle had become stuck, but no other information was immediately available.
After the 22-year-old did not return as expected while travelling alone on a hunting trip on Sunday, a search and rescue effort was mobilized in the community.
Eight vehicles left the hamlet office Monday morning. More people were expected to join the search, and local radio was broadcasting updates on the search.
Note: This story was updated to report that missing hunter Peter Nuliayok was located safe.
