A 13-year-old boy who went missing last Tuesday evening has been located safe and in good health by members of his hunting party, the RCMP said in a news release.

The hunters found the boy at about 6 p.m. on Sept. 4, the RCMP said.

“The RCMP would like to thank Nunavut Emergency Management and Search and Rescue volunteers from Naujaat and Hall Beach,” police said.

The boy was part of a nine-person hunting party that travelled from Igloolik to Itiliq Cove by boat, the RCMP said.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, the boy, who had been hunting with two other youths, stayed out longer to hunt on his own but never returned to camp that evening.

The hunting party used an inReach GPS device to report to the International Response Centre that the boy was lost.

Search and rescue teams from Naujaat and Hall Beach, including a helicopter, began a search but were hampered by bad weather on Sept. 4.

A Hercules aircraft had flown up from CFB Trenton to also help with the search on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 2.
