Second COVID-19 case confirmed in Iqaluit
New case does not impact public safety, says Health Department

A second positive COVID-19 case in Iqaluit was reported Wednesday by the Nunavut Health Department, officials confirmed.
This brings the total number of active cases in the capital to two.
No news release was issued for the case, but Chris Puglia, spokesperson for the Health Department, said this is because there is no increased risk to the public.
“Subsequent cases that do not lead to a change in public health measures are announced on [social media] simply as a new case,” Puglia said.
He added that samples will need to be sent to a lab in southern Canada, and testing for variants will take two weeks.
The new case follows another that was reported on Dec. 4, which was the first new case in Nunavut’s capital in nearly three months.
A person who returned to Iqaluit Dec. 2 after travelling in southern Canada tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 3, according to Nunavut’s chief public health officer.
While the transmission risk for both cases is considered low, a message on the GN’s Twitter and Facebook accounts posted on Dec. 6 advised that anyone who was at the Arctic Winter Games Complex on Dec. 2 between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. should self-monitor for 14 days, until Dec. 16.
The two active cases in Iqaluit are the first new cases in all of Nunavut since late October, when the final cases from an outbreak in Coral Harbour were deemed to have recovered.

The second case for Iqaluit was actually mentioned on the GN website since days. I’m missing the announcements from the previous premier about all Covid updates. Maybe this can be implemented again. Residents need to know, despite the opinion if there will be a public risk or not. We do live here, please include us and not only days later
How is the risk decided? Are both cases in fully vaccinated individuals? Is the 2nd case connected to the 1st case? I agree that more information should be provided as long as we continue to be under a public health emergency.
Joe savikataaq did his job, unlike this cat that got sworn In
What is it now, over 80% double vaccinated …can we remove four masks and get on with our lives?
How does wearing a mask prevent you from getting on with your life? Do you have a desperate need to go around and breathe on things?
“unmask”: the various levels of government and their plutarch handlers have seen how easily compliant we have become. That is the outcome of complacent democracy and persistent, lifelong propaganda. Look around; see how aligned the majority have become on any meaningful issue and how quick to quell any disputers. Just ninety years ago,
Germany had 82% voter turnout in its 1930 election. In western democracies, you can expect that we will remain under one emergency order or another, indefinitely – covidmania inspired or not – until such time as each of us says “no, I won’t”
the whole idea of ‘covidmania’ needs to die. Its not hysterical handwringing, it is a god damn pandemic, that is still killing thousands of people every single day, while pretentious idiots whine about individual liberties.
Its bad faith arguments from selfish people wanting to make Nazi analogies to hide that what they’re really saying is “I don’t care about anyone but myself”
