Second fire in Kugluktuk
Last Friday, responding to a new fire in the remaining portion of the burned out Catholic church in Kugluktuk, police made a grisly discovery — the charred remains of a human being.
After firefighters brought the fire under control, the area was cordoned off and an investigation begun under the Coroner’s Act.
Members of the RCMP’s major crimes unit and a member of the forensic identification section at the Yellowknife RCMP detachment are helping the Kugluktuk RCMP detachment as the investigation continues.
The person who died has not been identified, and police have not said whether it is a man, woman or child.
This is the second time in two weeks that fire struck the church. A fire on Apr. 13 almost entirely destroyed most of the building.
