Serious pond skaters

From left: Arviat siblings Brody and Jaida Panigoniak, who are 7 and 8 respectively, are seen skating on a pond on Jan. 2. The two began skating to knock the lockdown blues when their community came under strict COVID-19 public health measures at the end of December. When their local arena closed for a couple weeks, their mother, Hilda Panigoniak, said the duo missed playing hockey and were tired of staying home so she started driving them to a pond behind the rink to skate. Brody is playing hockey for the first time this year, while Jaida is in her third year playing the sport, she said. (Photo by Hilda Panigoniak)
