Should she stay or should she go?

QIA’s board of directors is deciding this week whether to oust president Meeka Kilabuk from her precarious perch.

The association’s secretary-treasurer, Joe Attagutaluk, said the board met on Tuesday and was planning to adjourn yesterday.

“We’re in recess right now,” he said in a telephone interview from his Igloolik home Wednesday morning. “We’ll probably make an announcement on Friday.”

The board met after Kilabuk rejected their request that she resign as QIA president two weeks ago.

The board requested Kilabuk’s resignation on July 18 after resolving unanimously at a July 5 meeting that she was a liability to the association.

According to QIA bylaws, the board can remove any of its members, including the president, if 65 per cent of the members vote in favour of doing so.

At the July 5 meeting, 13 of QIA’s 19 directors voted to request Kilabuk’s resignation. The others were not present at the meeting.
