Simailak urges Nunavummiut to get into mining
Nunavut’s minister of economic development and transportation, David Simailak, wants Nunavummiut to “become full partners in future resource development.”
Speaking during Northern Mining Week, Sept. 21 to 26, Simailak said the GN is committed to working closely with industry and residents to develop an infrastructure that meets the needs of industry and communities across Nunavut.
“It is important that we create an environment that supports and encourages responsible development so we can improve the economic future of our territory,” Simailak said, “All you have to do is to look at the positive impact diamond mining has had on the NWT economy to see that it is possible to develop a strong resource sector while respecting the environment and land.”
