An arrest has been made after one person was slashed with a knife and a police officer was allegedly assaulted in Pangnirtung.

The incident occurred Tuesday at around noon and a suspect was quickly located. While the suspect was being arrested and processed, the arresting police officer was assaulted, Nunavut RCMP said in a news release Thursday.

The 23-year-old male victim was treated at the local health centre and released. The release didn’t indicate whether the officer was injured.

RCMP have charged a 26-year-old man with assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, and failure to comply with a probation order. A bail hearing was scheduled for Thursday.

“This appears to be a random isolated incident,” said Sgt. Scott Kirychuk of the Pangnirtung RCMP. “The victim and the accused did not know each other.”

There, probably officers prevented another disastrous situation. I mean the number of people going after victims armed. Someone take that bail seeker aside and tell it , it could be worse, if police needed to do more. Maybe another shooting incident who knows. See another reason in plain sight of what police go through.
