Four people received minor injuries after a small plane overshot the runway at the Sanikiluaq airport early Friday morning.

Marc-Antoine Brassard, a communications officer with the Transportation Safety Board, said the board is aware of the situation and collecting information on what occurred.

He said the aircraft, a King Air 200, overran the runway while four people were on board — two crew members and two passengers.

RCMP said in a news release that the Sanikiluaq detachment received a call at 6:45 a.m. about a plane crash at the Sanikiluaq airport.

The Keewatin Air plane was visible beyond the end of the runway, police said in the release.

The four people on board were reported to have minor injuries and were transported to the health centre.

Weather conditions at the time of the incident included high winds and blowing snow with poor visibility.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing in conjunction with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, RCMP confirmed.

Posts on social media from community members in the hamlet of approximately 1,000 people indicate residents were on standby in case help was needed.

The blame goes towards the pilot and copilot for flying in turbulance and snowy conditions.

They were coming to take sick kids out for better treatment, these pilots fly, and land in the worst weather imaginable.
Hats off to these brave pilots and flight nurses who try to save lives.

Runway is too short and too narrow.
