Specialists on the run?

Iqaluit Centre MLA Hunter Tootoo spoke in the legislature last week about the postponements of appointment to specialists at the Baffin Regional Hospital resulting from the hospital’s recent loss of its accreditation.

Tootoo asked Leona Aglukkaq, the health and social services minister for confirmation.

Aglukkaq said that as far as she knew, the failure of the hospital to keep its accreditation shouldn’t have caused any loss of services. The next day, she told Tootoo the visits by specialists were cancelled to allow hospital staff to improve the specialist program at the hospital.
