A specialized RCMP unit from Ottawa examined a suspicious item and deemed it safe Saturday evening, the Nunavut RCMP said on Facebook.
On Saturday afternoon, police blocked off a portion of a street in the Tundra Ridge neighbourhood to investigate what was described as a “suspicious item.”
The police reported the investigation around 2 p.m.
By 5:30 p.m., two police vehicles had closed the road to traffic and were guarding a taped-off area around a house on Ukaliq Street.
The Iqaluit RCMP detachment called in a unit from Ottawa whose officers examined the item and confirmed it was safe, the police said in an update on Facebook late Saturday night.
Police then left the area and reopened the road.
The Iqaluit RCMP social media posts did not say what the item was or which unit from Ottawa had responded.
An RCMP spokesperson could not be reached on Sunday morning to provide more information about the incident or to say if any arrests were made.
Live in tundra valley. Would really appreciate what the item was being disclosed. We all wanna know.
They will never tell you because the answer would make them look foolish.
Like that thing that was shot down over the northern Yukon. They didn’t tell us what that was either.
It’s safe that is all that matters. Don’t worry your little head about it.
They say something they won’t reveal was safe.
Always question authority, John.
John is a conservative, it really shows in this comment too. Complete deference to authority, contempt for the those who would question.
You write as if it is bad to be conservative.
It’s not “bad” to be conservative, but conservatism has certain general features you can notice if paying attention.
Contempt for authority is no longer a right or left type of thing. Just look at the covid vaccine or the Freedumb Convoy. That was the right questioning authority.
Agreed. And never be afraid to question.
Hmmm, I read his comment as clear sarcasm.
I’m sure if he was neighbour he’d be asking all around what’s going on. Then blame the rcmp for not putting enough info out there. lol
