RCMP charge 35-year-old man charged with aggravate assault

A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred in Iqaluit Sunday night.

Officers responded to the incident at about 10:05 p.m. Sunday. The victim was taken to hospital and is in stable condition, according to an RCMP news release issued Tuesday.

The suspect is charged with one count of aggravated assault, three counts of failure to comply with a release order, and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

“I can confirm that the accused was remanded into custody and his next court date is Aug. 15,” Sgt. Pauline Melanson said in a written statement.

The news release did not identify where the stabbing occurred in Iqaluit.
