Still no core funds for Ilisaqsivik

The Government of Nunavut is still not prepared to offer core funding to Clyde River’s Ilisaqsivik Society, a community wellness centre that is one of the biggest employers in the community.

Leona Aglukkaq, the minister of Health and Social Services, delivered this message to James Arreak, the MLA for Uqqummiut, after Arreak asked her questions about it in the house last week.

Aglukkaq said she knows about the “great work” that Ilisaqsivik does for Clyde River residents, but that the centre’s work does not fit into the department’s core programs.
