Summer heats up
July was a scorcher in the Baffin, with temperatures continuing to set records at the end of the month.
On July 31, Clyde River reached 20.3 C, shattering the old record for that day of 15.6 C set in 1949. Pond Inlet hit 14.7 C, exceeding the record set in 1941 of 13.3 C. Cape Dorset broke a record temperature set in 1963 of 16.7 C when thermometers there reached 17.7 C.
On Aug. 1, Pond Inlet stayed warm, reaching 16.8 C, up from 16.1 set in 1940. Clyde River reached 17.1 C — 1 C higher than the previous record set in 1976.
