To celebrate Nunavut Day, Nunatsiaq News invited readers to share what makes their corner of the territory special to them.

Janice Komak

Here’s my story for this week.

I went fishing late Wednesday evening with my cousin and his son at the river.

My second cast I caught a fish, reeled it in and the fish pretty much swallowed the hook.

Cast again and immediately caught another fish.

Liam was overly excited he immediately grabbed the fishing rod to catch a fish for himself but also wanted me to catch another one, he cast and asked me to take over but end up getting the hook stuck.

We had a good laugh afterwards due to the excitement.

Darren gutted the char as soon as they were caught and him, Liam, and Dallas got to eat fresh char eggs and liver.

Summer is off to a great start in Ikaluktutiak.

Janice Komak lives in Cambridge Bay.
