A suspect is in police custody following the suspicious death of a woman in Salluit Sunday, the Kativik Regional Police Force said in a news release.

On the evening of Sunday, Nov. 1, the Salluit detachment of the KRPF received an emergency call about a possible fire. When firefighters and police arrived at the scene, they found no signs of fire but they did find a woman lying on a bed in a bedroom, the news release states.

An ambulance brought the woman to the local nursing station, where she was declared dead. The police statement does not identify the woman.

The KRPF says that because the death appears suspicious, it has asked the Sûreté du Québec to take over the investigation.

The KRPF says a suspect is in custody. It hasn’t published the name, age or sex of the suspect or indicated whether any charges have been laid.
