Swingin’ Iqaluit to get ja ed up next week
Iqaluit residents will be treated to performances by one of Canada’s leading ja performers next week.
Montreal drummer Bernard Primeau and his ja ensemble will visit Nunavut’s capital Monday and Tuesday. The group performs annually at the Montreal International Ja Festival and has toured clubs and concert halls across North America and Europe.
The group will give two evening shows at the Astro Theatre in Iqaluit, on Jan. 15 and 16.
Proceeds from the evening performances will cover the cost of a Jan. 15 afternoon concert being held for Iqaluit’s high school students.
Additional profits will go to Iqaluit’s homeless shelter.
Primeau’s visit is being organized by Iqaluit resident Caroline Cournoyer. Tickets are $35, and are available from her by calling 979-7680.
