Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park in Iqaluit will periodically close this summer and fall for grading operations and road maintenance.

The Department of Environment announced the changes June 11 in a public service announcement.

There is no set schedule released for the closures, but daytime closures will last approximately 12 hours depending on the weather and road work needed. Park gates will be closed for public safety and so that the work is unimpeded.

The department intends to send out a public notice about the park’s closure one day before it is closed.

Anyone seeking more information should contact the Department of Environment directly, the announcement said.

Just in-case the Inuit of Iqaluit aren’t informed. You as an Eskimo/Inuk have full rights of access into all territorial parks including the Sylvia Grinnel Park continuously -to enjoy your traditional activities such as harvesting (berry picking, fishing, hunting and camping ( tent/cabins). You are not bound to any type of restrictions. Only “park visitors” (non-beneficiaries) must follow regulations such as closures. Your rights as an Eskimo are protected by, and defined in the Nunavut Agreement and the (blanket) IIBA’s for territorial parks.

Is it just the road that’s closed? There are other ways into the park, like along the airport fence.

HTA had a hissy fit cos the bridge wasn’t being designed for ATV use, so they scrapped it.

Walking you say? Oh, the horror!

The bridge was NOT. Built because of When Mary Willman was Mayor
Because she did not want people passing by her CABIN

The bridge was supposed to be built over 20 years ago, long before she was mayor

Ummmm it may have been 20 years ago
But it was stalled because of world troubles like 9 -11

When it was revisited that’s when she denied it

If you look it up more perhaps
