Symposium on Nunavik Government

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

In collaboration with Dialog (Réseau québécois d’échange sur les questions autochtones) and Makivik Corporation, the Nunavik government negotiating team is preparing a symposium on Nunavik government.

The symposium is called “A New Way of Governing: The experience of the Inuit from Nunavik.”

According to information posted on www.nunavikgovernment.ca, the gathering will provide a historical perspective and present some of the “unique innovative aspects” of the new Nunavik Government — the only non-ethnic autonomous government being negotiated by a group of aboriginal people inside a Canadian province.

Guest speakers include Nunavik leaders as well as representatives from the provincial and Canadian governments.

The tentative dates for the symposium are Nov. 15 to 17 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Montreal.
