Teachers’ contract negotiations put on hold
The Nunavut Federation of Teachers concluded its third scheduled session of contract negotiations with the department of education On May 1, with a promise to continue discussions in October.
The teachers’ contract was to expire on June 1, but will remain in effect until a new contract is signed.
Negotiations were delayed because the school year is drawing to a close. Because many teachers will be away during the summer months, discussions will begin again in the fall, after the busy September registration period.
“The bargaining team is made up of teachers,” said Lou Budgell, president of the federation. “We wanted to schedule the meetings for when teachers will be available.”
