IQALUIT — Last October in Barrow, Ala. the chairmanship of the Arctic Council was transferred from the United States to Finland.

Finland now wants to increase the profile of the Arctic Council as a promoter of Arctic issues.

That’s why circumpolar residents are being asked how the flow of information from the council can be improved. Residents can fill in the questionnaire found on the Arctic Council homepage at www.arctic-council.org/whatsnew.asp.

“The aim of our research is to clarify the knowledge and views of the local inhabitants, indigenous peoples, decision-makers and scientists living in the Arctic region on the activities of the Arctic Council, and to find the means for improving the flow of information from and the visibility of the Arctic Council,” said researchers from the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland.

The results of their study will be used by Finland’s Arctic Council Secretariat.
