Sammy Duncan of Kuujjuaq is the new president of the board of Nunavik’s broadcaster, Taqramiut Nipingat, following the resignation of Arnaituk Tarkirk on Dec. 12.

Tarkirk was elected mayor of Ivujivik in November.

“To be fair to my community, I’ve decided to devote my full attention to the people of Ivujivik for the next two years,” Tarkirk said.

When TNI’s board of directors met in Dorval in December, they elected Duncan, TNI’s former vice-president, as their new president and Sandy N. Saunders, a former director, as vice-president.

“I have been involved with TNI for many years now and am aware of ongoing files,” Duncan said.

He intends to push forward with improvements to TNI’s radio network in Nunavik.

Duncan also sits on the board of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.

A businessman in Kuujjuaq, Duncan, 27, is a municipal councillor as well as a former National Aboriginal Role Model.
