Two men face charges following a string of break-ins in Iqaluit this month.

One of the men, aged 32, turned himself in to Iqaluit RCMP on Jan. 10 after police shared photos on social media asking for the public’s help to identify two suspects in a break-in at Arctic Ventures on Jan. 9.

Investigators received several tips from the public, Iqaluit RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

The 32-year-old was charged with break and enter and released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on that charge on Feb. 19 in Iqaluit.

RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the second suspect as the investigation continues.

RCMP responded to another break-in, this one at the Iqaluit Aquatic Centre at approximately 3 a.m. on Jan. 14.

Security camera footage showed two people had forced their way in a side door and gained access to Big Racks Pita Shack on the property, RCMP said.

Later that afternoon, the same 32-year-old man surrendered to police again as they conducted their investigation. He was released from custody after a bail hearing and will appear in court Jan. 29 in Iqaluit.

On Monday, police were able to locate and arrest the second suspect.

RCMP have charged a 41-year-old man with one count of break and enter and one count of breaching probation. He was held in custody and was scheduled for a bail hearing Wednesday in Iqaluit.

The 41-year-old is also charged in connection with a Jan. 16 break-in at a residence on Palaugaag Drive, where security footage recorded someone entering through a window.

For that incident, he is also charged with break and enter and breaching probation. He was scheduled to appear in court in Iqaluit on Wednesday.
