Two Iqaluit men face multiple weapons charges in connection with a Jan. 1 RCMP seizure of a prohibited firearm with a serial number that had been tampered with.
The serial number was identified with assistance from the RCMP National Weapons Enforcement Team, and an investigation by Iqaluit RCMP led to the two men being located and charged, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
Jordan Kovic, 24, and Juston Vincent, 26, are each charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, possession while not being the holder of a licence, and possession of a firearm knowing its serial number had been removed or altered.
Kovic is also charged with possession of a firearm while prohibited from doing so.
The next court appearance for the two is scheduled for June 12, in Iqaluit.
Kovic was previously acquitted of attempted murder in 2023, related to a 2019 assault in Iqaluit in which a man was repeatedly run over with a snowmobile and then kicked in the head.
Kovic pleaded guilty to three other charges related to that incident: assault with a weapon, failure to comply with a court notice of summons, and one count of aggravated assault.
