Two charged in death of Kuujjuaq man

On Tuesday night in Kuujjuaq Johnny Angnatuk, 40, a municipal sewage truck driver, died at the Montreal General Hospital.

According to the Surêté du Québec’s major crime squad, Angnatuk was assaulted by two men in his home Sunday night.

A dispute over alcohol apparently sparked the fatal incident. It started when Angnatuk asked for a share of the booze that the two men were drinking.

“They had received cargo that weekend, and were drinking a bottle of vodka and some beer,” said SQ spokesman Ronald McInnes. “An argument started, and they began to fight with the victim.”

An autopsy was to be performed on Angnatuk earlier this week.

Charged in conjunction with Angnatuk’s death are his son, Bobby Angnatuk, 25, and another man. The two appeared in court this week in Kuujjuaq and will be held in detention until their next court appearance.
