Two nabbed for drugs

IQALUIT — Two Iqaluit residents have been arrested in connection with a drug bust last month in Pangnirtung.

Louise Turcotte, 46, and Roland Levesques, 53, were arrested Tuesday after RCMP officers searched their Iqaluit home and discovered cash and drugs. Police say they also found evidence linking the two to the June 19 bust in Pangnirtung.

Turcotte is an employee of the Canada Post office in Iqaluit, but police won’t yet say whether they believe she was using the postal service to ship drugs.

“The investigation is ongoing and there are some aspects of it which we can’t comment on,” said Cpl. Rob Leger of the RCMP’s V Division drug section.

Leger said no dollar value has yet been assigned to the drugs seized Tuesday. The Pangnirtung bust resulted in the seizure of $20,000 worth of marijuana.

Turcotte and Levesques were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance. They are slated to appear in court Sept. 7.

Leger said more charges will probably be laid in the case.
