RCMP members in Cape Dorset, which recently changed its legal name to Kinngait,  are currently dealing with a possible active shooter in what they called an “unfolding dynamic situation” in the community of about 1,600.

The Cape Dorset RCMP detachment has received reports of a possible gunshot believed to be from a lone adult man, said a news release issued this morning by the RCMP shortly after 11 a.m.

“Police are currently engaged and making attempts to locate the suspect,” the release said.

The release asked residents to remain inside their dwellings and to stay away from the 1000 block area.

“There are no reports of any injuries at this point,” the RCMP said.

Later, police broadcast an alert about the ongoing incident, asking people in the community to avoid going near the dump and mountain area.
