The Vancouver Police Department will lead the investigation into an RCMP-involved shooting Thursday night in which one man died in Clyde River.

The shooting occurred after RCMP officers responded to a report of multiple gunshots having been fired from a home about 9:45 p.m., Nunavut RCMP said in a news release Friday.

A shelter-in-place alert was issued.

“When police arrived on scene, they were confronted by an adult male with a firearm,” RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said in the release.

“As a result of a confrontation with the adult male, shots were fired. The male is now confirmed to be deceased.”

The man’s name has not been released.

On Monday, an RCMP news release said Vancouver officers are requesting information from community members who may have witnessed the incident or have taken video while it was happening.

He said people can contact investigators by attending the Clyde River RCMP detachment in person or by phoning the detachment at 867-924-0123.

I would like the top job at Nunatsiaq news. That way, I’d post all the comments. I believe in freedom of speech, but, apparently not Nunatsiaq news. Semi communist paper.

When I had the top job at Nunatsiaq News years ago, I very, very rarely published anonymous letters. There are a few valid reasons for doing so, such as court orders, protection of youth, victimhood, issues of financial or physical danger, etc., but if your opinion is worth publishing, usually so is your identity.

They aren’t taking about letters. These are comments, which is different.

If you are an alcoholic, suffer from drug addiction, have ill thoughts, struggle with your mental health, have anger issues please go seek help for yourself.

You can seek advice from a local elder, you can make an appointment with the mental health nurse in your community, you can visit your local wellness coordinator to see what resources are available locally to help yourself.

Living the same miserable life day in and day out, doing the same thing every day, hanging around the same people is not helping yourself.

Remember you are worth so try and get some help before it is too lake.
