Vicious bullying targets handicapped child

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

I have six kids and two of them are in elementary school. One is partially disabled and the other one is okay.

One of my kids, the one who is disabled, has been bullied since Grade 1, by the same student. Now she is in Grade 3. Last month, my child came home with a bloody shirt from a scratch so deep we’ll be able to see the scar for many years to come.

But nobody from the school called to let me know what happened. I found out about it when I went home after work. My child was terrified of going back to school so I tried pulling her out of her class, but then I thought, geez, I’m going to hurt her future if I pull her out of school.

I’ve talked to the principal, the bully-child’s mom, and nothing has been done at all. My child came home again saying she was pushed and elbowed. You see, this bully-child is about 30 or 40 pounds heavier than my child and she’s healthy.

Can you please withhold my name, because the bully-child is still in the same class? I don’t know what to do any more, that’s why I’m writing to you.

I know bullying is never going to stop because kids are kids. I wonder if someday the school will call me and say my daughter was pushed down the stairs and she’s at the hospital. I’m scared for my daughter.

I don’t want my child harmed any more than she already is. I’ve thought of sending her to her grandparents in another community, but she’s my youngest child and I need her to be near me.
