Watt-Cloutier to be honoured during Canadian Environment Week

Sheila Watt-Cloutier, chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, will receive yet another award — a citation of “lifetime achievement” from the Canadian Environment Awards.

Taking place during Canadian Environment Week from June 4 to 10, the Canadian Environment Awards 2006 is a partnership between the federal government and Canadian Geographic Enterprises, which manages the program and publishes magazines.

The Canadian Environment Award’s top honour, the Citation of Lifetime Achievement, will be presented this year to Watt-Cloutier.

A press release on the award says Watt-Cloutier has “worked tirelessly for environmental protection and sustainability for Inuit, and her leadership and influence have been pivotal on key issues such as persistent contaminants and climate change.”

The awards gala, which launches Canadian Environment Week, takes place on June 5 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver.

Watt-Cloutier will deliver the evening’s keynote address.
