Watt-Cloutier wins $100,000 prize

Sheila Watt-Cloutier, the president of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, was awarded a prize worth $100,000 U.S. this week by a Norwegian environmental organization.

Called the “Sophie Prize,” the award is give out each year to a person who shows leaderhip in protecting the environment.

The Sophie Foundation says they’re rewarding Watt-Cloutier for “her tireless effort to draw the world´s attention to the devastating human effects of climate change and emissions of toxic chemicals.”

She’ll receive the award from Norway’s environment minister, Knut Arild Hareide, at a ceremony in Oslo June 15.
