Whaling station fire may be arson

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Police on the Lofoten islands in northern Norway are investigating two suspicious fires. They suspect fires on a whaling vessel and at a warehouse for whale meat may have been deliberately set.

Both were destroyed in the fires. The company that takes in whale meat from the northern whaling fleet, burned to the ground, while a whaling vessel was destroyed in a fire and sank while in dock.

“We’re not ruling out that this could be a case of sabotage,” said Rune Frøvik of the High North Alliance, an information agency for Norway’s controversial commercial whale hunt.
