What jobs do the regular MLAs have?

IQALUIT — Membership on a standing committees can give regular MLAs a powerful tool for influencing government policy within the consensus system.

Nunavut’s 10 regular MLAs have organized themselves into four standing committees:

Culture, Education and Health

Responsible for Health and Social Services; Education: Culture, Language, Elders and Youth

Members:

Akulliq MLA Ovide Alakannuark, Nattilik MLA Uriash Puqiqnak, Baker Lake MLA Glenn McLean, Tunnuniq MLA Jobie Nutarak, Arviat Kevin MLA O’Brien.

Government Operations and Services

Responsible for: Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, Finance and Administration, Human Resources

Members: Iqaluit Centre MLAHunter Tootoo, Amittuq MLA Enoki lrqittuq, Baker LakeGlenn McLean, Uqqummiut MLA David Iqaqrialu, South Bafin MLA Olayuk Akesuk.

Community Empowerment and Sustainable Development

Responsible for: Sustainable Development; Justice; Community Government, Housing and Transportation; Public Works, Telecommunications and Technical Services.

Members: Amittuq MLA Enoki Irqittuq, Tunnuniq MLA Jobie Nutarak, Hudson Bay MLA Peter Kattuk, Nattilik MLA Uriash Puqiqnak, Arviat MLA Kevin O’Brien.

Ajauqtiit

Responsible for: Office of the Legislative Assembly; Issues related to the Nunavut land claims agreement, Boards and Agencies.

Members: South Baffin MLA Olayuk Akesuk, Uqqummiut MLA David lqaqrialu, Iqaluit Centre MLA Hunter Tootoo, Akulliq MLA Ovide Alakannuark, Hudson Bay MLA Peter Kattuk
