Workers opt for joint WCB
IQALUIT — After consulting employers in Nunavut, the GN has decided to continue with a joint Nunavut-Northwest Territories workers’ compensation board.
In December stakeholders and businesses were surveyed to determine whether Nunavut should create its own workers’ compensation board. The results showed that people favoured the joint board.
The Workers’ Compensation Board is an agency that gives assistance to workers who are injured on the job.
Kelvin Ng, Nunavut’s minister responsible for the workers’ compensation board, said the WCB has served employees in Nunavut extremely well. “Benefits for employees are the most generous in all of Canada,” he said in a press release.
