YES Nunavik Ungava has a new direction and a new name.
The employment organization announced an expansion last week to provide services to people of all ages, not just youth. With the change of focus comes a change in name. YES, which previously stood for Youth Employment Services, now stands for Your Employment Services.
An initiative of the Kativik Regional Government, YES Nunavik offers pre-employment workshops and helps Nunavimmiut integrate into the labour market.
KRG announced the changes Feb. 6 in a news release.
YES Nunavik Ungava office is in a new home as well, located on the first floor of KRG’s Kuujjuaq headquarters inside the sustainable employment department.
“The reopening of YES Nunavik is an exciting chapter in bringing Nunavimmiut closer to the standard of personalized employed services enjoyed by those in the south,” KRG chairperson Hilda Snowball said in the release.
The move is intended to integrate YES Nunavik into Services Nunavik, a program that was announced in October. Services Nunavik assists people to access government services.
The office will feature job-search stations, equipped with computers and tools for job searching, resume building and digital skills training, with a private environment for personalized career support.
The sustainable employment department is holding an all-day open house Feb. 21 to celebrate the reopening, with guided tours and prize giveaways.
