Two youth hockey tournaments in Nunavik have been postponed due to the ongoing threat of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Nunavik Minor Hockey Program’s board of directors and leadership, with the support of Makivik Corp., have postponed both the Regional Pee Wee Hockey Tournament and the Regional Atom Hockey Tournament, which were to take place in the coming weeks.

The Peewee tournament was scheduled for March 25 to 29 in Kuujjuaq, while the Atom tournament would have been played in Umiujaq from April 15 to 19.

“The Nunavik Minor Hockey Program supports the health safety of all youth and staff who are involved with these events, and Makivik Corporation, the main funder of these tournaments, wants to avoid any chances for the COVID-19 sickness to spread within Nunavik at public events such as the hockey tournaments,” states a post on the Nunavik Minor Hockey Program’s Facebook page.

The Peewee tournament is tentatively rescheduled for November 2020 and the Atom tournament for December 2020.

That’s good, not only slow or prevent the covid -19, but stds, alcohol poisoning, hallucinations from drugs. Usual one big fat unhealthy party goes along with it. No ones house will get trashed also.

There’s a bigger chance of the kids being hit by drunk drivers than they do contracting the virus. And they are exposed to violence and intoxicated people so they’re never safe.

Yes the real threat are drunks causing problems to kids and everyone else. Violence, sexual abuse, hopefully it will become very difficult to get alcohol and drugs in this new cancellation of events and gatherings. That will lessen the real threats , never mind the virus.
