Tommy Holland, the Iqaluit man charged in connection with a Jan. 17 hit-and-run that left a seven-year-old boy with minor injuries, appeared Feb. 1 to face a separate set of charges before Justice Robert Kilpatrick at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit.
In addition to the five charges Holland faces relating to the Jan. 17 incident, Kilpatrick said police have laid three new charges against Holland, 29, in connection with an unrelated incident alleged to have taken place on New Year’s Day.
These new charges include allegations of impaired driving and driving without qualifications.
Both Crown and defence lawyers said in court Feb. 1 that they did not have the case file that contains details of Holland’s new charges.
For that reason, Kilpatrick adjourned both of Holland’s case files to Feb. 15.
In connection with the Jan. 17 hit-and-run incident, Holland faces five charges:
• one count of dangerous driving resulting in injury;
• one count of failing to stop at the scene of an accident;
• one count of impaired driving causing injury;
• one count of driving while disqualified; and,
• one count of resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
Holland, who stands more than six feet tall and appeared in court with a shaved head wearing khakis and a striped golf shirt, said nothing during his brief court appearance.
Kilpatrick said Holland had been released on bail after his Jan. 18 arrest with nine court-ordered conditions.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Nunavut Court of Justice again Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m.
