RCMP in Rankin Inlet responded to reports of gunshots there Tuesday night but found no evidence of a shooting, according to spokesperson Sgt. Pauline Melanson.
Officers were dispatched after receiving a call about possible gunshots at 10 p.m., she said in an email to Nunatsiaq News.
They searched several areas around Area 6 of Rankin Inlet and spoke to witnesses.
However, they found no person or anyone with a gun, Melanson said.
Police also searched the Johnson’s Cove and Swan Lake areas after witnesses described the shots as coming from out of town, but no one was found.

Is it illegal to fire a gun “outside of town”?
It might be if it’s still within the municipal limits even if it’s outside the built up area.
