Repair crews were bound for Pangnirtung Sunday morning to help the hamlet, where a local state of emergency was declared Saturday due to severe winter weather.

They were expected to begin line repairs and power restoration for the community of about 1,500, where Qulliq Energy Corp. said a partial community outage occurred. Local crews were already at work, Qulliq said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Qulliq said a plane carrying the additional crews left the Iqaluit airport at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday and was expected to land in Pangnirtung about an hour later.

Midday Saturday, Qulliq had posted that a flight scheduled to bring extra crews to Pangnirtung had to be cancelled due to poor landing conditions there.

On Thursday, the hamlet posted on its Facebook page that a severe weather warning from the Meteorological Service of Canada was predicting record-breaking winds in the community for that day.

Qulliq also announced on social media late Saturday night that full power had been restored in Clyde River following community-wide issues with the generator.
