Photo: Nunavik’s throat singing designated as cultural heritage

Nunavimmiut throat singers Evie Mark and Alacie Aulla Tullaugaq perform at a press conference at Montreal’s Museum of Fine Arts Jan. 28. The Government of Quebec recognized katajjaniq, or the practice of throat singing, under the province’s Cultural Heritage Act, making it the first immaterial heritage to be designated since the act came into force.
