New Democrat Lori Idlout was leading in her re-election bid in Nunavut riding late Monday night, despite a collapse nationally of the NDP that was losing half of its seats.

Idlout, a lawyer who was first elected in 2021 to be Nunavut’s only member of Parliament, had 1,456 votes, ahead of Conservative James T. Arreak’s 817 and Liberal Kilikvak Kabloona’s 708, as of 11:30 p.m. when nearly half — 31 of 66 — polls had reported results.

On election night, Idlout was watching results come in with supporters at the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum in Iqaluit.

Kabloona was watching the results at her home in Iqaluit, while Arreak was with supporters at the Aqsarniit hotel in Iqaluit.

By 11 p.m., it appeared the Liberal party led by Mark Carney was poised to form the next government. As results were coming in, it was not clear whether the Liberals would win enough seats to form a majority government, or if their seat total would lead to a continuation of a minority government.

4 more years of childish non-sense. A party that will have no status, a party that will have no leader. Great choice Nunavut, we’ll be a real player i’m sure.

What polling stations are we still waiting on? It seems like at 11h35 on the 29th that there are two missing still…? Anyone know?
