The cast and crew of North of North are celebrating after a big weekend. The sitcom, which is set in Nunavut and created by Alethea Arnaquq-Baril and Stacey Aglok MacDonald, brought home nine Canadian Screen Awards after receiving 20 nominations.

Two of those wins were televised on Sunday night. The production team was handed the trophy for Best Comedy Series, and the show’s star, Anna Lambe, won Best Lead Performer – Comedy.

“Thank you to my husband and children, and all of our families who have to sacrifice so much so we can do what we do,” Arnaquq-Baril said on the broadcast when she accepted her award.

The seven other awards North of North won were all for the comedy section and handed out on Saturday at the Scripted Television Awards event. Maika Harper won for Best Supporting Performer. The other six awards were for Best Writing; Best Guest Performance; Best Ensemble Performance; Best Direction; Best Original Music; and Best Achievement in Hair.

“Thank you so much to Alethea and Stacey, Anna, Braeden,” Harper said Saturday in a speech. “Everybody really, from North of North, you guys are my family now.”

Uiksaringitara (Wrong Husband) and its director Zacharias Kunuk were up for four awards, including Best Motion Picture and Achievement in Direction. The film lost out to Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, while Achievement in Direction went to R.T. Thorne for 40 Acres.
