Search continues in Yellowknife for missing Inuit woman

RCMP in Yellowknife are asking people in the city to keep a look out for an Inuit woman who disappeared last fall and hasn’t been seen since.

Angela Meyer, 22, the daughter of Kathy and Dean Meyer, had received a pass from the psychiatric ward at Stanton Hospital to visit her family at their home on 54th St. in downtown Yellowknife.

Meyer hasn’t been seen since Nov. 27, 2010 at about 1:20 p.m. when she went outside the home to smoke a cigarette.

Meyer was last seen wearing a white coat, black yoga pants, a black T-shirt, black socks and grey winter boots. Her fingernails were manicured with a black design on them. She was not wearing a hat or gloves, according to police.

Police later found Meyer’s white coat inside another residence, from which a red and black Arctic Winter Games volunteer jacket had been taken.

However, no progress in the case has resulted from any tips received from the public about Meyer following her disappearance, police say.

The RCMP continue to search for Meyer although air and ground searches so far haven’t turned up any signs of Meyer.

Meyer had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and Type 2 diabetes and may not have been taking her medication after being let out from the hospital, police say.

Meyer had only enough medication with her to last the weekend.
