Apex boy, 18, charged in April 18 gun incident
Young man faces five firearms-related charges
An 18-year-old boy from Apex faces five criminal charges in relation to a firearms incident that occurred in the early morning hours of April 18.
At the time, Iqaluit RCMP members responded at around 3:30 a.m. to a complaint of shots fired inside an Apex residence.
Three witnesses inside the residence, who left unharmed and then contacted police, identified a young man who remained inside with his brother.
RCMP then secured the area and diffused the incident once contact was made with the youth via telephone, an April 19 news release said.
“The suspect exited the residence unarmed and was taken into custody without further incident,” police said.
Police also recovered a firearm.
Markoosie Tiglik, 18, appeared before the Nunavut Court of Justice April 20 to face charges of discharging a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failing to comply with conditions of a undertaking.
Tiglik will remain in custody until his next court appearance, on May 3.
