Diamonds North Resources Ltd. reported last week that it has identified several new kimberlites— rock formations likely to contain diamonds— on its Amaruk property located 40 kilometres southwest of Kugaaruk.

To see through the rock cover in the region, Diamonds North is using a new electromagnetic device which has been able to identify large kimberlites, more than 400 metres across.

“I believe this could be a significant breakthrough for discovering economic kimberlites in the region, said Mark Kolebaba President and CEO of Diamonds North.

Kimberlites usually occur in big funnel-shaped structures called pipes. But only about one in 100 kimberlites turn out to be commercially viable.

Drilling has confirmed that Amaruk is a “diamondiferous” kimberlite field.

Diamonds North now wants to use its electromagnetic device other parts of the Amaruk property and the Barrow property, 15 km. south of Kugaaruk, to see if it can locate other kimberlites.
