Iqaluit music lovers will once again get to see and hear some of the biggest names in Canadian music when the Alianait Arts Festival’s 2016 concert series starts next year.

Alianait will present performances by Nunavut artists like the Jerry Cans and Nunavik’s Twin Flames — a duo comprising Inuk singer-songwriter Jaaji and Métis artist Chelsey June.

And the year’s series include pop-rock artist JP Maurice, glam rock artist Hawksley Workman and Canadian violin virtuoso James Ehnes.

The concert series, held at Inuksuk High School, kicks off on Jan. 8, 2016 with a concert featuring JP Maurice and the Iqaluit blues band the Tradeoffs.

Tickets for that show are already on sale at Arctic Ventures. Tickets for all shows can be bought through a subscription, in advance at Arctic Ventures, or at the door.

Elders and youths 12 years and under, accompanied by an adult, gain free entrance.

After JP Maurice, the next concert in the series will feature James Ehnes on May 24, followed by the Twin Flames on Sept. 10, Hawksley Workman on Oct. 22 and the Jerry Cans on Nov. 12.

Alianait also offers memberships for $20 a year, which shaves 20 per cent of shows and merchandise.
