Alianait arts festival has launched the first of its 2012 concert series in Iqaluit, beginning with an evening of traditional Nunavut talent.

On Jan. 21, Alianait will host popular Pangnirtung accordionist Simeonie Keenainak, who will play alongside singer-songwriter Tim Evic and gospel performer Etulu Aningmiuq.

Other shows scheduled in the 2012 line-up include:

• March 31: Yellowknife storyteller and songwriter Pat Braden.

• May 26: Award-winning fiddler, singer and stepdancer April Verch.

• September 8: Nova Scotia folk singer/songwriter Dave Gunning.

• November 17: Suzie Vinnick, roots-blues singer songwriter.

Since the Iqaluit-based arts festival decided to scale back on its mainstay summer music event, the organization continues to offer year-round entertainment.

Subscription series and individual show tickets go on sale Jan. 13 at Arctic Ventures. Series buyers will save more than 20 per cent on ticket prices.

Elders and children 12-years and under accompanied by an adult enjoy free admission. Concert venues are to be announced.
